    FAQs

    Is This Self-Custodial?

Yes. Every vault in Cofund, whether it's Bitcoin or Ethereum, is deterministically-generated from registered public keys that you & your team, club, organization or company solely control. You can register by generating a seed phrase, importing a seed phrase or connecting with Ledger (other HWWs coming soon). You then use either a password or passkey to encrypt, decrypt, & sign transactions.

Does This Strictly Require Other People?

No. While the UX is optimized for groups of people (such as businesses, teams, etc.) a growing use-case is for individuals who simply want to leverage the security of multisigs. All you do is invite yourself to various emails.

    How Does It Work?

Cofund achieves a cohesive, optionally-hierarchical crosschain experience through two user-roles ("admins" & "members"), two types of vaults (P2TR + smart contracts) & one universal primitive ("policies"). Policies are at the crux of our engineering & are the ultimate guardrails for how assets are moved around.

    What Are Policies?

Policies are on-chain & client-side rulesets that contain a signer set, a threshold, & asset limits. Allowing anyone in your team to spend $20 of USDC with a low-threshold (2-of-8) is a policy; restricting movement of more than $10k in BTC with a high-threshold of (4-of-5) is also a policy. For our BTC vault the signer set & threshold are verified on-chain while the amount limit is only guarded client-side (until covenants at least); for our smart-contract based vaults the entire policy (including asset, contract, amount, etc.) is verified on-chain.

    How Are Transaction Fees Calculated?

Only withdrawals / transferring out of the vault. And even then, we understand that different clients have different needs, if you have a unique case & would like to explore a custom pricing setup just give us a ping at our contact[at]getcofund[dot]com address.

    Can I Connect Existing Wallets?

No. This is a standalone wallet that's sandboxed within the webapp (no connecting anywhere else).
